Câu tường thuật là gì?

Câu tường thuật hay còn gọi là Reported Speech – là một loại câu gián tiếp dùng để thuật lại lời nói của người khác.

Những điều chú ý dưới đây bạn nên nhớ khi chuyển một câu trực tiếp sang một câu gián tiếp:

• Động từ tường thuật được chia ở các thì hiện tại, chúng ta giữ nguyên thì của động từ chính, đại từ chỉ định, các trạng từ chỉ nơi chốn và thời gian khi khi chuyển sang câu tường thuật.
• Động từ tường thuật được chia ở thì quá khứ thì phải lùi động từ chính về quá khứ một bậc khi chuyển sang câu tường thuật theo bảng sau đây:

am/is/are	was/were going to
will/shall	would/should

can	could
present simple	past simple
present continuous	past continuous
past continuous	past perfect continuous
present perfect	past perfect
past simple	past perfect

• Động từ tường thuật được chia ở thì quá khứ thì các trạng từ chỉ thời gian, nơi chốn và đại từ chỉ định được chuyển đổi theo quy tắc sau:

today	that day

yesterday	the day before / the previous day
tomorrow	the next day / the following day
now	then
ago	before
this	that
these	those
this / that	the
here	there
next / on Monday	the next / following Monday
last Monday	the previous Monday / the Monday before
the day after tomorrow	in two days’ time / two days later

Các loại câu thường thật trong tiếng Anh

1. Câu tường thuật ở dạng câu hỏi:

Đối với dạng câu hỏi “YES/NO”, chúng ta dùng công thức: S + asked/wanted to know/wondered + if/whether + S + V

Ví dụ: “Are you hungry?” she asked – She asked if I was hungry

Đối với dạng câu hỏi “WH-questions”, chúng ta dùng công thức: S + asked(+O)/wanted to know/wondered + Wh-words + S + V 

Ví dụ: I asked them: “where are you going on summer vacation? – I asked them where they were going on summer vacation

Lưu ý: say/says to – ask/ask, said to – asked

2. Câu tường thuật ở dạng câu kể:

Câu tường thuật ở dạng câu kể được dùng khá phổ biến trong tiếng Anh đẻ thuật lại lời nói hoặc câu chuyện của một người khác.

Công thức của câu tường thuật ở dạng câu kể được chia như sau:

• S + say/says/said hoặc tell/told + (that) + S + V. Ví dụ: She said :”I love my parents very much” – She said she loved her parents very much
• Said to + O -> told+O. Ví dụ: John said to me: “I like these shoes” – John told me he liked those shoes
• Says/say to + O -> tells/tell + O. Ví dụ: She says to me: “I haven’t finished my homework” – She tells me she hadn’t finished her homework

3. Câu tường thuật ở dạng câu mệnh lệnh:

Các dạng câu tường thuật ở dạng câu mệnh lệnh dùng để thuật lại một câu mệnh lệnh của ai đó, được chia như sau:

• Câu khẳng định: S + told + O + to-infinitive. Ví dụ: Mr.Han said: “Sit down, please, Hanni” – Mr.Han told Hanni to sit down.
• Câu phủ định: S + told + O + not to-infinitive. Ví dụ: the teacher said to us: “Don’t cheat on test” – The teacher told us not to cheat on test
• Câu điều kiện loại 1: S said/told (that) If + S + V_ed, S + would + V. Ví dụ: She said: “If I have money, I will buy this car” – She said that if she had money she would buy that car.
• Câu điều kiện loại 2 và 3: S said/told (that) If + S + V-ed, S + would + V hoặc S said/told (that) If + S + had + V-2, S + would + have + V-2. Ví dụ: He said if he had known you were coming, he would have bought more donuts.

4. Câu tường thuật ở dạng đặc biệt:

• Khi dùng “shall/would” để diễn tả một đề nghị hoặc một lời mời. Ví dụ: Linh asked: “Shall I bring you some coffee?” – Tom offered to bring me some coffee
• Khi dùng will/would/can/could để diễn tả sự yêu cầu. Ví dụ: Linh asked: “Will you turn off the light for me, please?” – Linh asked me to turn off the light for he
